HDD Technological Advancement

Exploring and adapting to the latest technologies and processes is what keeps Mears in the forefront of the industry.  Whether it’s exploring the latest innovations, or gaining knowledge on a new technology or process, Mears maintains a position ahead of the curve.  Seeking out new methods and custom-designing equipment is evident in our history as a company.

Finding better processes is also evident in the introduction of our newest service, Horizontal Directional Geotechnical (HDG), which reduces project costs and increases schedule predictability by shifting the pilot hole phase into the planning and feasibility phase of a project.  Seeking new methods to improve productivity and performance of our equipment, Mears has invested in real-time monitoring systems which provide up-to-the minute information on the performance of our drill spreads out in the field.  They allow Mears’ management to make well-informed decisions on a moment’s notice if necessary. Mears’ down-hole (annular) pressure monitoring assists our crews in analyzing pressure during drilling, which can reduce the risk of inadvertent frac-outs.  With our utilization of the Gyroscopic Steering Tool System, we’ve allowed ourselves to accurately drill in difficult environments where other steering systems would falter.
